Advanced EKG Interpretation

The ability to interpret the electrocardiogram is a life-saving skill, but residency training in emergency medicine or the primary care specialties only teaches the basics. Through a series of mini-lectures and multiple case-presentations, the speakers will teach the audience an assortment of ECG pearls that will elevate their ability to interpret ECGs to the a significantly higher level, and they will also teach some of the common pitfalls that can lead to disastrous outcomes. Whether members of the audience are new residency graduates or seasoned physicians, they are going to learn new and useful information that will truly make a difference in patient care and will save lives!

At the conclusion of this presentation, each participant should be able to:

  1. Identify subtle ECG findings in the ACS patient which predict an increased risk of morbidity and mortality.
  2. Distinguish between the various types of AV block as well as a common benign mimic of AV block.
  3. Identify ECG abnormalities in patients with syncope which predict sudden death.
